It is with great sadness that we report the passing
of E.R. Joiner at 7:30 this morning, February 25, 2008. He slipped quietly
away after a lengthy battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy (Shy-Dragger
Syndrome).
Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors are in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday evening, February 27, 2008, at the Hodgson Chapel from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 28, 2008, in the Hodgson Chapel at 10:00am with burial to follow at 2:00pm at Samaria Cemetery (the family cemetery near Garfield, Emanuel County, Georgia). ~ ~ ~ Joiner Gardens is a family owned business specializing in the cultivation and hybridizing of hemerocallis, more commonly known as daylilies. Founded in 1962, Joiner Gardens was the brainchild of Enman R. Joiner who actively ran the business until recently when his health began to decline. |

With his passing the world of Daylily Growers lost one of it's biggest fans. Enman, ER as he was known to most folks, was a nationally awarded hybridizer and recipient of the Bertrand Farr Award and two time winner of The President's Cup. During the 46 year span of his 'daylily' career he personally registered and introduced over 500 cultivars. He will be sorely missed by family and friends. The Legacy continues however in the capable hands of Jan & Royce Joiner and their son, Aaron. Be sure to visit the garden this summer to see what is new this year. There will still be new "E.R. Introductions" appearing for the next few years. |

Also we want to say a word of "Thanks" to all of you who have e-mailed memories, stories and pictures of Dad and your visits to the gardens. Jan read them to him each evening. He & Mom both enjoyed them and the outpouring of love & concern that they conveyed. If you have not sent a story and want to, please do so. We will all enjoy sharing your memories. |
